During our June 2026 Can We Talk educational series, Empowered To Thrive welcomed community members to the Tamarac Library for an engaging discussion on the importance of managing stress and prioritizing self-care.

Our featured speaker, Valencia Daniels-Delaughter, RN, BSCM, a dedicated Patient and Family Nurse Navigator, shared practical strategies for reducing stress and building resilience. She reminded attendees that caring for ourselves is not a luxury—it's an essential part of maintaining our physical, emotional, and mental well-being, especially when navigating life's challenges.

Valencia highlighted eight simple yet impactful ways to manage stress:

  1. Focus on daily goals rather than the entire journey.

  2. Celebrate the blessings and victories of each day.

  3. Remember that sometimes, simply showing up is enough.

  4. Spend time outdoors by walking, stretching, or engaging in light exercise.

  5. Practice meditation and prayer.

  6. Explore creative outlets such as gardening, painting, journaling, or crocheting.

  7. Connect with others by joining a support group.

  8. Find opportunities to laugh and embrace joy.

We extend our sincere gratitude to Valencia Daniels-Delaughter for sharing her knowledge, compassion, and practical tools with our community. Her thoughtful presentation served as a powerful reminder that managing stress begins with making ourselves a priority and taking intentional steps toward healthier living.
