It is with deep sadness that we acknowledge the passing of Deetra Sands Durham, Founder, President, CEO, and inspiration behind Empowered to Thrive, Inc. Deetra created this organization out of her own health journey, transforming personal challenges into a powerful mission to uplift and support cancer survivors and thrivers everywhere—men and women, young and old alike.

Her dream was simple yet profound: to ensure that no one facing cancer would ever feel alone. Through Empowered to Thrive, Inc., she built a community rooted in strength, compassion, and hope for those navigating their own journeys.

During this difficult time, we ask that you keep Deetra’s family—especially her beloved son, Marcus Durham, and brother Darryl Sands—in your thoughts and prayers, and that their privacy and personal space be respected as they grieve this tremendous loss.

We also ask for prayers and comfort for the Board of Directors of Empowered to Thrive, Inc. They were more than colleagues; they were family to Deetra, and they are deeply saddened by the loss of someone who meant so much to them and to the community they serve.

While her passing leaves a profound void, Deetra’s vision lives on. The mission she created to uplift, empower, and support the cancer community will continue in her honor and in the spirit of the legacy she so passionately built.
