In 2019, retired Broward County school administrator Linda Thomas attended what she expected to be a routine annual breast exam. Instead, she received life-altering news: a diagnosis of Stage 3 breast cancer.

 

With strength and determination, Linda faced her diagnosis head-on, undergoing an intensive treatment journey that tested her physically and emotionally. Yet even in the midst of her own fight, Linda’s resilience and compassion never wavered.

 

During her remission, Linda transformed her personal battle into a powerful mission of service. She became a dedicated breast cancer advocate, offering support, encouragement, and practical assistance to others facing similar diagnoses. Linda created a support and mentoring group of cancer survivors known as the “Warriors.” One of her most impactful contributions is the “Personal One-on-One Oncology Consultation Notebook,” which provides individuals affected by cancer with suggested questions for their oncologists, recommended treatment discussions, and helpful steps to navigate their journey. Understanding firsthand the challenges of treatment, Linda also provided transportation for patients needing assistance getting to and from medical appointments—ensuring that no one had to face their cancer journey alone.

 

Linda continues to give selflessly of her time, often placing the needs of others before her own. Whether supporting cancer survivors or uplifting those newly diagnosed, her presence brings comfort, hope, and strength. In recognition of her advocacy efforts, she was invited as a special guest of Debbie Wasserman Schultz at the 2023 Cancer Survivorship Summit.

 

Beyond her advocacy, Linda remains a devoted mother to her two adult children, a loving grandmother, and a caring daughter to her mother, balancing family life with her unwavering commitment to service.
